Enlightenment (2018)

Enlightenment, for soprano, flute, violoncello, electronics, dancer and video was premiered in June 2018 in Zurich as a result of the transdisciplinary collaboration with Patrycja Pakiela, Mauricio Rodríguez and Qiuming He.

The piece is articulated by a series of fragments extracted from Hildegard von Bingen's mystical visions where she describes humans in different ways. It reflects upon two of the main focuses in her visions: the difference between individuality and collectiveness, and the divine and mundane dimensions of the human beings, represented in her visions by light and darkness. The relationship between the musical and scenic time is devised breaking down the power structures of the two disciplines and conceiving time as a cyclical non-linear dimension.
