ARSADAPT - Artists for a sustainable future

ArsAdapt is a project focused on integrating sustainability and related research into the artistic work of musicians and music students. One of the key initiatives within this project is the creation of a new course titled "Kestävän tulevaisuuden taiteilijat" (Artists for a sustainable future), which brings together students from various music disciplines, including classical music, folk music, music technology, and global music, along with doctoral students and educators committed to pedagogical development.

The course delves into sustainability-related themes using musical expression as a medium. It explores topics such as human experiences in times of sustainability transitions, the relationship between humans and the world/nature, uncertain futures, and ecological crises. This interdisciplinary endeavor also involves researchers from the ADAPT program and CERADA research center at the University of the Arts Helsinki.

Jaime Belmonte, a doctoral student at the Sibelius Academy, has played a significant role in the ArsAdapt project. He focuses on data sonification, a process that converts environmental data into sound, making it more accessible and emotionally engaging. Jaime's work exemplifies the project's innovative approach to integrating science and art.

Overall, ArsAdapt aims to foster a dialogue between science and art, test sustainable performance practices, and address sustainability challenges through music and sound art. The project underscores the cultural and artistic dimensions of sustainability and highlights the importance of collaboration in adapting to a sustainable future.
